Live updates: Trump threatens to bomb US ally Oman as Iran agreement expires

2 min read

President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Oman, threatening military action if the U.S. ally interferes with American operations in the Strait of Hormuz. This escalation comes at a precarious moment as a sixty day deadline for a deal to end the conflict with Iran has officially expired. While the president maintains that he is in no rush to reach an agreement, claiming his team has opened a direct backchannel with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, those claims have been flatly denied by the IRGC.

Despite internal pressure from advisors who argue that stabilizing global oil prices should be a primary concern, Trump reiterated that his singular focus remains preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. The tension in the region is mirrored by logistical strains within the U.S. Navy, specifically aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. The president dismissed reports of food and supply shortages on the aircraft carrier as fake news, defending the crew’s conditions even as the vessel approaches a deployment length not seen since the Vietnam War.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue in Gaza where Jared Kushner recently held a marathon four hour meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Kushner urged Israel to move forward with a U.S backed ceasefire plan but emphasized that any withdrawal of Israeli forces depends entirely on the total disarmament of Hamas. According to sources close to the discussions, including representatives from the Board of Peace, there will be no redeployment of troops until every tunnel is cleared and every weapon is surrendered.

Beyond Middle Eastern tensions, Trump signaled a shift in East Asian policy by reducing military exercises with South Korea, citing a lack of cooperation regarding Iran. In a surprising turn, the president suggested he has resumed communication with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, insisting that his personal rapport with Kim makes the world safer regardless of criticisms that he is prioritizing adversaries over longtime strategic partners.
